The middle school leaving certificate through the vocational school

In order to obtain the middle school leaving certificate of the vocational school, various partial achievements must be proven. An award will only be made if all necessary partial performances have been proven:

  • Graduation certificate from the vocational school with a minimum grade average of 3.0 (applies since the 2010/2011 school year; graduates who completed the vocational school before August 1, 2010 can only take the middle school leaving certificate in accordance with the rules applicable up to then with a minimum grade average in the final certificate the vocational school of 2.50.) and
  • completed vocational training and
  • Proof of sufficient (= grade 4) knowledge of English at the level of at least five years of English lessons can be awarded (applies since the 2010/2011 school year; graduates who completed the vocational school before August 1, 2010 can only obtain the secondary school certificate after applicable regulation with proof of satisfactory knowledge of English (= grade 3) at the level of at least five years of English lessons).

The certificates are issued by the vocational school attended.

Proof of English skills can be provided by the English grade

  • in the final certificate of a secondary school (successful or qualifying secondary school diploma) or
  • in the annual report for grade 9 or 10 of a grammar school (English as the first foreign language), a secondary school, a business school or a school of a special kind or
  • in the certificate of proof of the required English skills for the secondary school leaving certificate of the vocational school and vocational school and for the qualified vocational qualification or
  • in the diploma of the vocational school.

The required knowledge of English is also proven by an English certificate recognized by the State Ministry in general or on a case-by-case basis.
