Charité board reorganized

The Supervisory Board of the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin has set the course for the future direction of the University Medicine with the personnel decisions in its meeting today: Astrid Lurati has been confirmed in her current position as Director of Finance and Infrastructure. Prof. Dr. As of January 1, 2021, Martin E. Kreis will take over the role of Board Member Health Care from Prof. Ulrich Frei, who will retire at the end of the year. In addition, with the integration of the Berlin Institute for Health Research into the Charité, its chairman, Prof. Dr. Christopher Baum, will become a member of the board of the Berlin University Medical Center on January 1, 2021. The personal details complete the process of redesigning the six-member board of the Charité.

The changes are based on the Berlin University Medicine Act, which was amended in October 2019, which created new structures and official titles for board and management positions at the Charité.

Michael Müller, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Charité and Governing Mayor of Berlin, on the importance of personnel decisions: “At today's meeting of the Supervisory Board, we jointly passed groundbreaking personnel decisions for the Charité. I am particularly pleased that, with the newly established position of the Board of Directors for Personnel and Nursing, we are giving the topics of recruiting and securing skilled workers as well as nursing, as the largest professional group represented at the Charité, a corresponding weight in the board of directors. The new board is almost complete. With the planned integration of the Berlin Institute for Health Research into the Charité on January 1, 2021, it will then comprise a total of six board members and will be able to tackle the current and future challenges of university medicine with a strengthened and interdisciplinary staff. In doing so, we are also successfully completing an important process aimed at further developing the governance structures of the Charité. With a newly composed supervisory board with excellent external experts and the new board of directors, the Charité is excellently positioned for the future and I look forward to our cooperation. "

Prof. Dr. Heyo K. Kroemer, Chairman of the Charité Board of Directors, welcomes the new features: “With today's personnel decisions, the new six-member Charité Board of Directors is complete. I am personally very much looking forward to working with the board members, who are proven experts in their respective fields, to shape future topics and the further strategic development of the Charité 2030. Together we will rethink health care in order to further expand the excellent position of Berlin University Medicine in research, teaching and health care. "
