Long-haired calico cats are rare
Does the lucky cat have a special character?
Fortune cats are almost always female because the genes that make their fur color red or black are related to the X chromosome. This means that only cats that have two X chromosomes can become a three-colored cat - provided that there is also a white piebald. Multi-colored hangovers are very rare, they are born with two X and one Y chromosomes and are sterile. Lucky cats are definitely something special, but do they all have a certain character?
Does the lucky cat have the so-called "tortitude"?
In the English-speaking world, the character of the lucky cat or the tortoiseshell cat even has its own term: "Tortitude". Tortoiseshell cats are velvet paws that have red and black fur, but little or no white fur. They are therefore not always three-colored, but sometimes only two-colored. In English, the tortoiseshell pattern is called "Tortoiseshell", abbreviated to "Tortie". "Tortitude" is a compound word made up of "tortie" and "attitude", which can be translated as "attitude" or "attitude". This describes a certain attitude of multicolored cats. It is assumed that certain character traits are innate and related to the color of the coat.
An online survey of 1,400 cat owners seems to confirm that the lucky cat has a special character. It was asked about the behavior of the cats, including how aggressive the animals are towards their humans or towards the vet. It found that multicolored cats - regardless of whether they were three-colored cats or tortoiseshell designs - were more likely to report aggressive behavior. However, the leaders of the online survey said that the difference was minimal. In addition, many cat owners with gray-white velvet paws also rated that their favorites were prone to aggression.
Tricolor Cat: Alleged Character
The scientific evidence for the lucky cat's unique character is therefore very thin. Nonetheless, many fur-nose friends who own a tricolor cat or a tortoiseshell kitty report certain personality traits that they have not observed in monochrome cats, monochrome tabbies, or monochrome cats with white spotting. Multi-colored cats are considered to be particularly stubborn and resolute as well as somewhat diva-like. They are said to be hot-headed and a little bit possessive towards their favorite people. They are also remarkably independent, unpredictable, but talkative.
Some are also of the opinion that the "tortitude" in tortoiseshell cats is even more pronounced than in lucky cats, since the white spotting soften the personality traits inherited from the colors red and black. So far, however, these are only assumptions. And: isn't every cat unique in its own way?
