What if Hitler defeated Russia and England?

If Hitler had won the war ...

With the help of Italy and Japan, Europe was to be subjugated first, then the whole world. In a "great Germanic world empire" the "German master people" should put their stamp on the rest of the planet.

Not Hitler alone, but the entire world order

"If Hitler had won the war" is the title of the best-known book that deals with the scenarios for the world order after a National Socialist victory.

However, his author Ralph Giordano does not see Hitler alone as responsible for these plans, not even a small group of confidants around him, but refers to the "almost collective consensus between this leadership and an overwhelming majority of the people".

As the son of a Jewish woman, Giordano himself suffered from the reprisals of the Nazi regime. He bases his work on numerous scientific findings, partly also on the book "The Nuremberg Trial" by Joe L. Heydecker and Johannes Leeb.

The authors compiled the documents and statements of the Nuremberg trial against the main war criminals and were thus able to paint a comprehensive picture of the world order after a German victory.

Plans for Europe

According to the ideas of Hitler and his confidants, there should be a peace conference after the war, which Germany was to win with the support of Italy and Japan.

The first core piece of the Nazi plans: the subjugation of Europe. Countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands should be fully or at least partially incorporated into the Third Reich.

According to Heydecker and Leeb, France and the countries in the Balkans should remain "in a state of constant submission" and parts of France should be annexed. Even plans for an attack on neutral Switzerland were already in place.

Hitler had a split relationship with Great Britain: on the one hand he considered it to be the "most Aryan people" in the world after the Germans, on the other hand he was of the opinion that it was ruled by "Jewish bastards". For Great Britain, Hitler had intended a supportive or at least neutral role in Germany's path to world domination.

However, Britain saw Hitler as a threat to its own interests. After Nazi Germany invaded Poland, the British declared war on Germany in 1939. Ultimately, it was clear to the Nazis: Great Britain would have to be completely subdued.

However, the most significant element of the Nazi ideas for reshaping Europe and the world was the occupation of the Soviet Union and the annihilation of about 30 million Slavs. Hitler wanted to conquer the country as far as the Urals in order to create new living space.

In parts of the Soviet Union, cities should be built in which Germans and Nazi-friendly people of other nationalities - such as Danes, Swedes, Norwegians and Dutch - should live.

The Russians should live behind a ring of 30 to 40 kilometers with beautiful villages - and they should be enslaved, serving the Germans as staff and unskilled workers. Like many other Eastern European cities, Hitler wanted to devastate Moscow and have a huge reservoir built over it.

In addition, Hitler and his leadership stipulated that the Vatican should be occupied and the Pope kidnapped. The Nazis wanted to install counter-popes in all occupied countries.

According to their ideas, the individual Catholic groups would then position themselves against one another, the influence of the Catholic Church and thus of Christianity as a whole would wane.

After that, the Nazis wanted to introduce their own teaching based on a mixture of Germanic worship of Wotan and Indo-Persian beliefs.

Plans for the world

Hitler and his followers dreamed of a "great Germanic world empire". In this, not only Europe but also the rest of the world should be subject to the Germans. After the annexation of large parts of Europe, the entire African continent was to be colonized and significant parts of Asia subjugated in order to weaken the British Empire.

When this was done, the "final battle between the remaining two strongest world powers" should come about, between Germany and the USA. For this purpose, bomb squadrons were to be created that could cross the Atlantic and return without refueling in order to be able to subjugate the USA to the "Greater Germanic Empire".

If the struggle for world domination had been won, the US should be rearranged according to the Nazi ideas. Hitler's plans envisaged that the group of Americans of German descent would grow rapidly so that the USA would gradually become a country with a German population.

Even Hitler's confidante Alfred Rosenberg had thought about the USA, especially about the "race problem": he supposedly wanted to resettle blacks and Jews to Madagascar. However, he testified so while he was in prison during the Nuremberg Trial, possibly hoping for a lighter sentence. It is more likely that the Nazis wanted to continue the extermination of the Jews there as well.

Plans for Germany

Germany should flourish: after the war there should be bonuses for the most beautifully rebuilt cities and villages. Motorways should not only penetrate Germany, but the entire "Germanic Empire". Hitler also dreamed of an "Über-Bahn", which would connect the individual cities at 200 kilometers an hour and for which the Nazi architects had already drawn up some of the designs.

Berlin was to offer space for eight million people and was to be renamed "Germania". This metropolis was to become the capital of the "Germanic Empire". As in Berlin, huge boulevards, triumphal arches and magnificent buildings were to be built in Munich, on the banks of the Chiemsee even a party university housed in massive buildings. The Nazis had already chosen the building site.

Strict rules should apply to the population in the "Germanic Empire": the way of life of the individual would have been dictated by the state from childhood, from the Hitler Youth to the Nazi retirement homes the party would have had a strong influence on society. The empire was to be controlled by an elite who could be used for any tasks within the leadership ranks.

Hitler and his confidante Heinrich Himmler wanted to "breed" these "master men" with the help of SS men. They should even have the right to double marriages in order to have as many more blond, blue-eyed offspring as possible. On the other hand, marriages that have remained childless should be dissolved after five years.

Personal plans of the Nazi leadership

After the reorganization of the world, Hitler wanted to retire. According to Heydecker and Leeb, who quote Hitler's personal photographer Heinrich Hoffmann, he had chosen Obersalzberg in the Berchtesgadener Land and wanted to monitor his successor critically from there.

Giordano quotes another source according to which Hitler wanted to settle in Linz. Whoever was to follow in his footsteps definitely had to be younger than Hitler. His confidants like Himmler or Goebbels were out of the question because they were his age.

Himmler also had very specific plans for himself: He had the Wewelsburg rebuilt near Paderborn, which was intended to be the ancestral home of the planned castles in the "Germanic Empire".

The leadership of the Nazis was to be trained in the Ordensburgen. Himmler wanted to live in this castle after the war. But nothing came of these plans either: In 1945 Himmler had the planned center of the "Germanic Empire" partially destroyed and shortly afterwards committed suicide.
