Every year people around the world celebrate the birthday of Jesus on December 25th. But the festival is much older than Christianity.

The origin of Christmas lies in the feast of the winter solstice. Even in antiquity, the Egyptians and other advanced cultures used December 21 - the day of the winter solstice - as an opportunity to celebrate the birthdays of their sun gods. Around 500 BC the Romans made December 25th the birthday of their sun god Sol and the Germanic peoples celebrated a festival called Jul, which still means Christmas in Scandinavian languages.

In Christianity, the solstice festival was considered a pagan custom. 400 years after the birth of Christ, the heads of the church at that time forbade the festivities - to no avail. The social anchorage was too strong. The Church's goal has always been to win pagans to Christianity. So she decided without further ado to dedicate the festival to Jesus. Since then, Christians have been celebrating Jesus' birthday on December 25th instead of the winter solstice.

It is unclear on which day Jesus was actually born. There are only interpretations of Bible passages circulating that indicate a date of birth in autumn. A census took place around the time Jesus was born. Such surveys were traditionally carried out in the post-harvest period, i.e. in September or October.

  • Commentary by Florian Gertmeier, Germany
It's a shame that such dubious texts are published here. Christmas is a purely Christian festival. However, since the true birthday of Jesus is unknown, there was the problem of finding a date. And that was probably also influenced by existing festivals. However, Christmas, the birth of Jesus, was celebrated on different days in different areas by early Christians even before it was fixed for December 25th.

The most amazing and at the same time saddest thing is that religions have always been based on lies and are almost always the cause of wars, murder and torture. Nevertheless, mankind apparently needs all these constructs of lies. Yes, she even aligns her whole life to it, out of convenience, so as not to have to claim her own mind! So let's celebrate a peaceful Christmas even if children were originally burned as an offering on this occasion. Happy Holiday!

You have not fully described, because for over 6 thousand years the winter solstice has been celebrated in Iran and / or by Iranian peoples. The occasion is the birthday of Mithra the sun god !! Mithraic cult later immigrated to Rome and even later
