The term persisted and appeared increasingly in connection with training programs for prisoners. In the 70s and 80s, the first rehabilitation boot camps for people who had committed criminal offenses, mainly minors, or people with drug problems. The USA, Canada and New Zealand were pioneers here.

A large part of these bootcamps were physical tasks - that is, strength and fitness training. Bootcamp holidays couldn't be talked about yet ...

At the end of the 90s, so-called “boot camp workouts”, which take place both indoors and outdoors, became increasingly popular in the USA. At the beginning of the 2000s, outdoor group fitness courses also spread more and more outside the USA - first in Canada, New Zealand and Great Britain, and later worldwide.

Since then, the military aspect has moved more and more into the background at most fitness bootcamps and usually does not appear at all.

Today it is part of everyday life when you stroll through the parks and green spaces in major German cities: groups of between 5 and 20 people training together in the fresh air. Often you can hear them from afar - the big jukebox shouldn't be missing.

However, it's not just bootcamp groups training here, you'll also see yoga sessions, Pilates classes, and more. You can recognize a boot camp by the trainer. Mostly with a loud voice, motivating and supportive, he drives his group to top performance. At the end of the training session, people like to stand together and chat before everyone goes home. Next week it continues.

With the boot camp vacation you bring the boot camp workouts from your everyday life to your vacation. You drive to special places, in unbelievable accommodations and enjoy an intensive training program in a wonderful atmosphere that challenges and encourages you. In this way you can combine a relaxing holiday with usually several sports units a day. So you have at least the accommodation and the sport included in the price. Depending on the boot camp, other services are included, such as meals, airport transfers or joint activities and excursions.

It is very different from bootcamp vacation to bootcamp vacation how much training takes place per day. Usually it is between three and six hours, whereby you can always decide for yourself whether and in which units you participate.

The most common form of training is circuit training. For this purpose, different stations are set up depending on the number of participants, which are processed with high intensity and short breaks.

Here classic exercises such as push-ups, squats, pull-ups or sit-ups can appear, which are only performed with your own body weight. In addition, there are exercises that are carried out with auxiliary equipment, including TRX training, thera bands, kettlebells, medicine balls, skipping ropes, steppers, dumbbells and barbells and more - the possibilities are virtually endless.

Some boot camp vacation providers take the approach of offering training throughout the day. The individual units sometimes do not have the highest intensity, but challenge you through the multitude of training sessions, so that the entire body gets its money's worth. This also includes playful workouts such as beach volleyball, races or team challenges.
