2. Reminder for the General Assembly on Sept. 29, 2019

We would like to point out again to the General Assembly: Because the board team will be newly elected there. Only all ordinary members * (membership fee 35 euros) can vote for them or have themselves appointed as board members *.

We are still looking for new people! People who want to help in our team or who want to be set up as a team. There can be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 people. If possible, every form of hearing impairment and form of communication should be represented, e.g. sign language, spoken language, Lormen, tactile sign language, etc.

If you want to volunteer, get in touch with us as soon as possible! So that we have enough time to get to know each other.

The most important dates for the General Assembly:

When: September 29, 2019, 12 noon-1 p.m.

Where: dialog.hotel.wien "Am Spiegeln", Johann-Hörbiger-Gasse 30, 1230 Vienna

If you have any questions, you can contact us at [email protected] Interpreting is required by September 1, 2019 register by email.

3. Note: white cane / long cane painting

Since we also have friends in Germany, we have the following news for you. For all those who have a white cane or long cane, watch out! There is a hearing impaired artist in Germany who paints blind canes. Make your long pole unique! Erich Stadler paints the stick as you wish. It can be your first letter or your favorite symbols or just colors. You are welcome to contact him directly. This is his email address:

[email protected]

Regarding the legal situation, we asked: According to ÖNORM, the long stick must be at least 75% white! With that some painting is quite possible :-) If it is not 75% white, then there is no longer any legal protection in traffic. This means that in the event of an accident, the person affected is no longer exempt from the principle of trust!
BUT if the person concerned also wears an armband, the color of the stick does not matter. Because the armband offers legal protection in traffic.

PS .: A painting or a noticeable pattern can help to distinguish several sticks from one another.

4. Note: Dealing with people with hearing impairments

We have found interesting information for you from Switzerland. The Swiss Central Association for the Blind (SZ BLIND for short) provides information about hearing impairment / deaf blindness for those affected, relatives and specialists. There you will find a video and a text description on how to deal with visually impaired people. These are very valuable tips on how to deal with each other!
