What is freedom in people's minds
Mental freedom: how to get it
There are times when stress has a firm grip on us. Challenges at work, deadlines and then perhaps countless obligations in private life - your head is spinning. Mental freedom however, it plays a crucial role when it comes to regeneration. If you are mentally preoccupied with problems and things that need to be done, you cannot relax. This can work for a while. Anyone who is permanently under “electricity” is overexploiting their body. It is all the more important to become aware of the effects of harmful behavior and to adopt methods against it.

How mental bondage harms
To understand what is meant by mental freedom and how you can attain it, let's first take a look at the opposite. Mental bondage shows up in different situations that many people know. For example, if we are under stress, then the thoughts circle often only about one thing - or in the worst case even several things:
These thoughts are often introduced with “I still have to”, “quickly”, “just” and reinforced by looking at the possible consequences: “If I don't ... succeed ...”. That all builds even more pressure on. The problem: there is a tunnel vision.
Certain possibilities are no longer used at all, People block themselves downright for other things. A state in which we get pressure from outside and still inflict some pressure on ourselves is not very desirable and at some point leads to health problems.
That is why mental freedom is so important because it is allows room for maneuver. It is crucial for us to be healthy, to experience quality of life and personal success. The difficulty lies in getting it and keeping it.
This has to do with the fact that every person is part of a society and is therefore subject to certain norms and values. To what extent we do this, however, for us accept and obeyis our own responsibility.
Social norms and values shape
Of course, no one can easily get away from it certain beliefs clear. We have been socialized in a certain environment. Society, parents, teachers and people around us shape us and our thinking.
An example: Every society is based in some way on the seniority principle. That means what older people have to say, theirs values and standards, are largely adopted and not questioned. In a sense, they get advance praise for being older and having more experience.
This principle can be recognized, for example, from the council of elders in the German Bundestag; there was already such a thing in ancient societies. Nobody would think of government business or that Business management in the hands of children (= Inexperienced) to give.
Mental freedom here means you though know such rules, but decide for yourself whether you accept them. And not necessarily in general, but depending on the situation. Overall, you may consider the Council of Elders to be a sensible institution because older people have more life experience.
And yet you can meet an elderly person who represents completely stubborn, unrealistic or even misanthropic views with which you cannot do anything. It is one of our western achievements not to have to rigidly follow any social beliefs (respect for age) in such moments, but here freely express one's opinion to be allowed.
If this is your manager, you may have a problem. Nevertheless, you will be made up of the state or society no consequences threaten.
More courage to take responsibility
Out of self-inflicted immaturity - that was a central demand of Kant. Ultimately, this means nothing other than that people should have the courage to embrace theirs Reason to use and take responsibility for yourself.
Mental freedom - that is minimalism of the mind.
You are mercilessly mucking out internally by saying goodbye to old thought patterns that are harmful. Mental freedom isn't just one Attitude towards oneself, but also towards others.
To think that you have to do certain things this way and that because "everyone" does it that way (who is everyone?), Or because it is expected of you mental bondage.
Of course: here we are not talking about total resistance to all social norms, it is not about anarchy. What it is about is rather: your own To question beliefs and to check whether they actually have the relevance that we attribute to them.
And if so, are they helpful? If not: why are we still burdening ourselves with it?
How thought patterns set traps
Because often ours This distorted self-image. In many cases it is beliefs that people have taken with them from their childhood. They originally served to avoid critical situations.
For example, a belief could be: I am always so clumsy. Perhaps a child broke something more often and was reprimanded for it by the mother. As a result, they try harder to avoid such situations, because as a child they are dependent on the love and care of their parents.
Countless childhood situations can lead people to internalize thought patterns that they own hinder in adult life: I can't do anything right, I'm so slow, I can't think logically ... and so on.
This thinking promotes self-fulfilling prophecies rather than actually corresponding to the truth. This mental lack of freedom leads to people depriving themselves of the opportunity to develop and to take a new path.
This means that they may be the same again and again frustrating experiences preprogrammed instead of something changing for the better.
Allow and seek new experiences
Even if childhood is a very formative time: There are still enough opportunities as an adult to make experiences that are old Change thought patterns.
you decidehow you deal with situations, what you think. For example, if you are currently in a life crisis: Your partner has left you, you have a chronic illness or you have been given notice and now have to reposition yourself on the job market at the age of 50.
All of them are not easy situations. And at the same time nothing that isn't already someone experienced before you would have. You can of course now take the role of victim and drown in self-pity. For a while, this may help you feel sorry for yourself.
This is how you gain mental freedom
Indeed enslave yourself even if you don't get out of this hole again. Of course, you won't automatically be in a relationship, get healthy, or get a job acceptance just because you change your point of view. And yet: Dealing with such situations is crucial for your ability to act.
You can do that:
Break the routine.
To gain mental freedom, you need new experiences. For example, you could consciously choose new ways to get to work. Anyone traveling by car can use the bicycle. These routine interruptions contribute to the fact that new areas of the brain connect with one another. This benefits your intelligence and thought processes. It helps you to come up with new ideas in situations in which you were previously stuck.
Some hold the view that the internal order is reflected in the external and vice versa. In order to gain mental freedom, you need to break free of old, disturbing thought patterns and beliefs. Outwardly, you can accompany this process by parting with unnecessary ballast. Old furniture and clothes that you don't like for a long time, but still stand around in the corner. Books you haven't read for a long time. Giving away old things can be liberating and bring joy to others. At the same time, you create space for new things.
Adopt new, beneficial beliefs; for example, you can work with affirmations. Find new experiences that you have fun - learn a new language, take a dance class - consciously acquire new knowledge. New impulses on different levels, physical, emotional and spiritual, ensure that you can compare with old experiences.
Listen to your gut.
What does your body actually signal in certain situations? Sometimes people have forgotten how to perceive their body's signals. You probably register the common cold, perhaps also the increasing frequency of infections. But the tension in the stomach and neck are ignored. More mindfulness, especially towards yourself, contributes to mental freedom.
